Where the Nets & Knicks Drain Threes
Madison Square Garden
New Yorkers are certainly fanatical about their basketball. For years, the Knicks dominated the New York landscape, consistently outshining the Nets, who although from New Jersey, still maintained a fraction of the New York fan base.
As of 2012, however, that’s all changed. Moving from away from New Jersey, the newly minted Brooklyn Nets are seeking to grab an even bigger share of the basketball market in the state.
The Knicks, however, won’t go away without putting up a fight. Playing all home game in the internationally famous Madison Square Garden, the Knicks still play big at home, seeing fans traveling in from as far north as Nyack, and from as far east as Woodbury.
Centrally located in New York City, Madison Square Garden, or The Garden as it’s more commonly known, opened in 1968 as a multi-use venue, is home to the Knicks, and Rangers of the NHL, and hosts many live performances from major touring artists on a yearly basis. Whether you’re staying in downtown Manhattan, or exploring one of the other nearby boroughs, travel in from Jamaica or Rockville Centre and check out a Knicks game.
The Brooklyn Nets attract fans from across the state – fans flock from central New York to catch all the slam-dunks and drained three pointers of Nets action during the fall. All the Nets home games are played at the Barclays Center, set just minutes north of downtown Brooklyn, and only a short drive south of Long Island City.
