NY's Pro Baseball Teams
The Yankees & Mets Reign Supreme
Built across the street from the original Yankee Stadium, new Yankee Stadium has housed the Yankees since 2009, and is a marvel of architectural design.
The Yankees are easily the most famous baseball team world wild, with their famous “NY” logo emblazoned across the ball caps of those famous, and not so famous. The Yankees have an incredible in-state following, having won 27 World Series Championships. Fans travel into the Bronx from as nearby as downtown New York New York, to as far north as Nyack.
The baseball pride in New York is, despite all of the Yankees’ success, split between Yankees fans and Mets fans. Established in 1962, the Mets stumbled out of the gates, finishing a record worst 40-120. Since then, though, the Mets have seen success, winning the World Series as recently as 1986.
Travel from nearby cities like Flushing, and Rockville Centre to the home of the Mets: Citi Field. Opened in 2009, CitiField is a replacement home to Shea Stadium – famous for its giant apple-popping-out-of-top-hat display near center field. The Mets, like the Yankees, are a vibrant beacon for New York sports, establishing a fan base that reaches far across the state – as far north as Buffalo, Ithaca, and Syracuse.
