Visiting Buffalo and Western New York
Summer is the season for all kinds of outdoor adventures in western New York. Parks and iconic attractions like Niagara Falls are ripe for discovery, and communities from Buffalo to Lockport to Jamestown are gearing up for more special events, sports, and family-friendly fun than any other time of year.
Buffalo doesn’t lay claim to an MLB team of its own, but that doesn’t mean visitors and residents can’t enjoy America’s Favorite Pastime. The Buffalo Bisons round the bases at Coca-Cola Field, taking on the fiercest future big-leaguers in MiLB’s Triple-A class through the first week of September. Check the schedule during your visit to enjoy a day at the ballpark.
Then, before you know it, football returns. Rex Ryan and his Buffalo Bills are looking to improve on a disappointing 2015 NFL season as they gear up for preseason action this August. Join Bills fans at Ralph Wilson Stadium for the first home game of 2016 on Thursday, September 15th, when they welcome the division-rival New York Jets.
Don’t let the pros have all the fun – work on your golf swing at one of western New York’s countless first-rate golf courses this summer. Golfers in Jamestown enjoy quick and easy access to South Hills Country Club, where an 18-hole, par-72 course draws players from nearby Dunkirk or Olean as well.
The 2016 Erie County Fair features all the fair staples families have come to know and love, August 10th through 21st. Held at the at the Hamburg Fairgrounds in Hamburg, just minutes south of Buffalo, Cheektowaga, and Lackawanna, it’s almost two weeks of midway rides and games, 4H exhibitions, live entertainment, fried food, and more.
Thirsty? Wine lovers in western New York have much to sip and sample. The Niagara Wine Trail is a must in the spring and summer, and taking place as fall begins to appear, Buffalo's 2016 Harvest & Wine Festival is a favorite among casual fans and connoisseurs alike. Lions Beachfront Park hosts the event on October 8th. Come for the wine, stay for the excellent food offerings and top-quality live entertainment.
