Visiting Albany & the Hudson Valley

Be sure you spend a fair amount of time exploring Albany. New York’s capital city will yield full days of exploration as you tour its many excellent attractions. Don’t miss the New York State Museum, Times Union Center, or the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area.
Some of the local events this fall in Albany include the 12th Annual Halloween Pets on Parade, held at Goold Orchard on October 16th. You can see an array of pets each in handmade holiday costumes, all starting at 2 p.m. Another top Albany-area event is the much-anticipated Art of Seating: Two Hundred Years of American Design, held from October 1st through December 31st at the Albany Institute of History & Art.
In November, your stay in Albany should include a night of excellent live music. Head for the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall in the nearby city of Troy to see A.J. Croce live on stage. On November 10th, the son of the famous Jim Croce, and talented musician in his own right, takes the stage starting at 7:30 p.m.
The holiday celebrations will be in full effect this December in Albany. Make your way to the Palace Performing Arts Center on December 2nd for an exclusive performance of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker. Presented by the Moscow Ballet, this is a one-night-only show starting at 7 p.m.
Keep the holiday spirit alive with a visit to the Empire State Plaza Convention Center on December 4th and check out the Great Train Extravaganza 2016. You and the family will be treated to an impressive array of model train displays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
You’ll find one of the Hudson Valley’s premier New Year’s Eve celebrations just north of Albany in Saratoga Springs. On December 31st, head for downtown Saratoga Springs to experience First Night Saratoga 2017 and check out the live music, excellent food, and lively dancing. It all starts at 6 p.m.
