Explore New York's Hudson Valley & Albany
New York’s Finger Lakes are beckoning a visit this upcoming winter and spring seasons. The winter chill begins to fade, and residents of destination cities like Hornell, Cortland, and Batavia will be celebrating with a variety of festivals, community events, and outdoor recreation.
One of the most convenient ways to see the Finger Lakes countryside is by embarking on a scenic driving tour. The aptly named Finger Lakes Tour explores the must-see sights in Rochester and makes a visit at Cornell University in Ithaca.
The 8th Annual NY State Ice, Wine & Culinary Festival is a fun way to warm up this winter. Wineries, restaurants, and other Finger Lakes area-establishments showcase their best culinary creations, while Casa Larga Vineyards, just south of Rochester, hosts live entertainment and a variety of other fun. It all starts at 11 a.m. on February 13th.
NY visitors travel to Penn Yan in droves during the winter to hit the slopes at Bristol Mountain Ski Resort, set only a short drive from the city. Too, Penn Yan is also a gateway to the Seneca Lake Wine Trail. Over 35 vineyards and wineries surround Seneca Lake, offering travelers a delightful and easy to navigate wine trial. Just south of Interstate 90 (the New York State Thruway,) Penn Yan is a nice place to stop and discover the local wines.
Hosted in Rochester's Highland Park, the 2017 Rochester Lilac Festival will feature parades, concerts, wine and chocolate tasting, craft beer garden, and other events nestled among 1,200 bushes of lilacs. The sweet aroma of lilacs defines this festival, which runs typically in mid May for about 10 days. More details are TBA.
The 16th Edition of the Rochester International Jazz Festival takes place June 23rd through July 1st. The 2017 Jazz Festival will have more details released as the date approaches, but traveling jazz fans can certainly expect a week’s worth of talented headliners across more than 10 venues in Rochester.
