Visiting Lake Placid & New York's Adirondack's
Lake Placid is as lively as ever in the spring and summer, as are communities throughout New York’s Adirondacks. This season, a wealth of special events, seasonal festivals, and family-friendly fun welcomes visitors to mountain retreats like Saratoga Springs, Watertown, Canton, and Plattsburgh.
With the snow finally gone, it’s the perfect time of year to get out and explore northern New York’s expansive and diverse countryside by embarking on a scenic driving tour. It’s a cascade of colors as blooming wildflowers line foothills and forests below the Adirondacks, and towns like Ticonderoga and Saranac Lake make great day-trip destinations.
The ECHL season is nearing its climactic end – the Adirondack Thunder are the pride of hockey fans in Lake Placid and throughout the Adirondack region. Check the schedule during your visit to find out when you can catch some ice-shredding action at Olympic Center in Lake Placid – the 2015-16 season stretches into the second week of April.
Don’t leave all the athletics to the pros – runners are already training for the 2016 Lake Placid Marathon & Lake Placid Half Marathon. The 12th annual edition of the big race is held on June 12th. Runners choose between scenic marathon and half-marathon courses, both starting on Main Street in front of the Olympic Speedskating Oval.
Still have energy to burn? The 2016 Adirondack Canoe Classic - 90 Miler Race is the weekend after Labor Day. Paddlers begin at Old Forge on Long Lake and finish the race in Saranac Lake after making their way down a continuous route along the Moose River and the Fulton Chain of Lakes.
Of course, the 2nd Annual St. Lawrence International Film Festival is a more laid-back affair. Seeking to encourage cultural exchange, tourism and trade, the St. Lawrence International Film Festival is an annual world-class event showcasing new and classic films to a worldwide audience in venues throughout Canton and across the US-Canada border, September 1st through 4th.
